Held on the Saturday of the Arts and Acts Festival, artists are invited to transform the pavement into a checkered pattern of color and imagination at the Chalk Festival while visitors can view a variety of chalk art at their feet, then vote online for their favorite!
The Northville Art House invites artists of all ages and abilities to create artwork filled with color and imagination at the the 7th Annual Chalk Festival. Held live on the third Saturday in June on the parking lot and sidewalks near Northville Art House, artists enter age-specific divisions with prizes awarded in each category. Rain Date: Sunday, June 20, 10 am – 4 pm.
The 11th Annual Arts and Acts Festival features over 120 unique fine artisans and crafters in three fairs – Art in the Sun, Maker’s Mart and Young Artist Juried Art Fair. This year Arts and Acts will be held at the Art House near Downtown Northville, a lively city with a 150-year-old history and small-town charm. Patrons experience a vast display of art, entertainment, activities, and more!
Proceeds go toward awards and public art education programs at the Northville Art House.

Online Registration Fee: $8 for the first space and $4 four each additional space. Up to 5 spaces per registration all with the same start time.
Deadline: Thursday, June 17 at 5:o0 pm EST (After deadline, On-site Registration only)
On-site Registration Fee: $10 per first space and $5 each additional space. Up to 5 spaces per registration all with the same start time.
Open: Friday, June 18, 4 pm – 8 pm and Saturday, June 19, 10 am – 3 pm at the Chalk Festival tent next to the Art House.
The Arts and Acts Festival will follow all current COVID-19 City of Northville, State of Michigan, and CDC guidelines with face coverings recommended to be worn by unvaccinated visitors for the protection of everyone. Visitors are asked to keep a safe social distance from others, avoid standing in crowded areas, and wash their hands frequently. Hand washing stations and sanitizer will be available throughout the festival. Thank you!
Eligibility: Artists of all ages and abilities are invited to participate in the Chalk Festival. Artists may enter as individuals or groups (more than one) into the division determined by the age of oldest participant.
Divisions: Divisions include Children 0 – 11, Teens 12 – 17 and Adults 18+.
Awards: Each division is awarded two prizes. A Jury Award determined by a panel of judges, and a People’s Choice Award determined by public vote. Photos and public voting form to be posted online Sunday & Monday, June 20 – 21.
Notification: Winners notified on Wednesday, June 23.
Artwork: Artwork must remain with the designated space, approximately 36” x 48”. Artist are encouraged to create artwork filled with color and imagination; be family friendly and appropriate for all viewers; contain no nudity or political statements, contain no words or symbols intended as advertising or promotion, and not violate any copyright laws. Drawings on buildings, trees, or any other surface are strictly prohibited.
Chalk: One bag/box of dry chalk in assorted colors is provided for each entry. Participants may bring their own chalk, brushes or water. All chalk must be dry or water-based. No spray fixatives or flammable materials.
Festival officials can disqualify artists for failure to adhere to any of the above COVID-19 or CHALK FESTIVAL guidelines.
Check-in: FIVE minutes before your reserved time on Saturday June 19, 10 am – 3 pm at the Chalk Festival tent next to the Northville Art House.
A numbered space will be given at a 6ft social distance from the next participant(s) based on online registrations and on a first-come, first-serve basis with on-site registrations. There may be some spaces that have cracks or texture variations, please make the most of these ‘imperfections’!
