Held on the Saturday of the Arts and Acts Festival, artists are invited to transform the pavement into a checkered pattern of color and imagination at the Chalk Festival while visitors can view a variety of chalk art online and at their feet.

Saturday, June 19, 2021, 10 am – 4 pm

The Northville Art House invites artists of all ages and abilities to create artwork filled with color and imagination at the the 7th Annual Chalk Festival. Held live on the third Saturday in June on the parking lot and sidewalks near Northville Art House or virtually from the comfort of home, artists enter age-specific categories with prizes awarded in each category. Rain Date: Sunday, June 20, 10 am – 4 pm.

ARTS AND ACTS FESTIVAL

The 11th Annual Arts and Acts Festival features over 120 unique fine artisans and crafters in three fairs – Art in the SunMaker’s Mart and Young Artist Juried Art Fair. This year Arts and Acts will be held at the Art House near Downtown Northville, a lively city with a 150-year-old history and small-town charm. Patrons experience a vast display of art, entertainment, activities, and more!

Covid-19 Safety Guidelines will be in place during this event. All artists will be required to wear masks.

Proceeds go toward awards and public art education programs at the Northville Art House.


CHALK FESTIVAL GUIDELINES

Eligibility: Artists of all ages and abilities are invited to participate in the Chalk Festival. Artists may enter as individuals, two-person or groups into the division determined by the age of oldest participant.

Divisions: Divisions include Children 0 – 11, Teens 12 – 17 and Adults 18+ for both Virtual and Live Contests.

Awards: Each division within the Virtual and Live Contests are awarded two prizes (12 total). A Jury Award determined by a panel of judges, and a People’s Choice Award determined by public vote. Photos and public voting form to be posted online Sunday and Monday, June 20 – 21. Winners notified on Wednesday, June 23.

VIRTUAL CONTEST

Artists share their creative chalk art created in dry, wet of spray chalk by uploading a photo from the comfort of their home.

Artwork: Artwork can be any size. Artist are encouraged to create artwork filled with color and imagination; be family friendly and appropriate for all viewers; contain no nudity or political statements, contain no words or symbols intended as advertising or promotion, and not violate any copyright laws.

Chalk: A limited supply of dry chalk in assorted colors is available for pick-up at the Art House. If needed, please selected “Yes” in designated box on the entry form.

Fee: $6 per entry and includes one box/bag of chalk if needed.

LIVE CONTEST

Eligibility: Artists of all ages and abilities are invited to participate in the Chalk Festival. Artists may enter as individuals, two-person or groups into the division determined by the age of oldest participant.

Artwork: Artwork must remain with the designated space, approximately 36” x 48”. Artist are encouraged to create artwork filled with color and imagination; be family friendly and appropriate for all viewers; contain no nudity or political statements, contain no words or symbols intended as advertising or promotion, and not violate any copyright laws. Drawings on buildings, trees, or any other surface are strictly prohibited.

Chalk: One bag/box of dry chalk in assorted colors is provided for each entry. Participants may bring their own chalk, brushes or water. All chalk must be dry or water-based. No spray fixatives or flammable materials.

Festival officials can disqualify artists for failure to adhere to any of the above guidelines.

Live Online Registration Fee: $6 per artist/group includes an assigned numbered space for one reserved timed-entry and one box/bag of chalk if needed. Please select an available time.

Deadline: From Friday, June 18, 4 pm – 8 pm to Saturday, June 19, 10 am – 3 pm at the Chalk Festival tent next to the Art House.

Check-in: Saturday June 19, 10 am – 3 pm at the Chalk Festival tent next to the Northville Art House. Rain Date: Sunday, June 20, 10 am – 3 pm. A numbered space will be given at a 6ft social distance from the next participant based on online registrations and on a first-come, first-serve basis with on-site registrations. There may be some spaces that have cracks or texture variations, please make the most of these ‘imperfections’!
