Held on the Saturday of the Arts and Acts Festival, artists of all ages are invited to transform the streets of Downtown Northville into a checkered pattern of color and imagination at the Chalk Festival.
You can participate as an artist or just walk, view, and experience a variety of chalk art at your feet. In 2019, over 120 chalk artists participated.
Registration is required. The fee is per sidewalk square and includes chalk. See below for official rules.
Online Registration: Cost $4; Currently closed.
On-site Registration: Cost $6; Opens with the Festival on Friday, June 18, 2021 at 3 pm through Saturday, June 19 at 3 pm or until all spots are filled. On-site registration is located at the Chalk Festival tent at the intersection of Main Street and Center Street.
Festival Rules: Participants create their work in a designated sidewalk square.
The Northville Art House will provide one box or bag of chalk to each participant or group of artists. Participants may bring their own chalk, brushes or water. All chalk must be water-based. No spray fixatives may be used.
The numbered squares will be assigned randomly and on a first-come, first-serve basis. Some squares may have cracks or texture variations. Make the most of these ‘imperfections’!
Rain-day: If it rains on Saturday, June 19, 2021, the alternative day will be Sunday, June 20, 2021.
Check-in for pre-registered and to be registered participants takes place at the Chalk Festival tent at the intersection of Main Street and Center Street beginning at 10 am on Saturday, June 20. You must register in order to participate.
Judging: Awards will be determined by the festival-goers! Voting takes place online between 4pm June 19 and 5pm June 20. Cast your vote and see the winners of your favorite Square on our Facebook page! Winners will be announced on Facebook and the Northville Art House website on Monday following the Festival.
