Introduction to Botanical Illustration
Instructor: Corry Buckwalter

Participants will learn how to draw observationally to create botanical illustrations with pencil on paper. Drawing from a living indoor plant in your home, such as a vine, leafy tropical, succulent, or a cut plant from outside, students will gain a deeper understanding of plant anatomy, composition and botanical details which will foster more accurate and graceful drawings. 

The class will include:

• a brief historical references and basic botany
• a step-by-step demonstration of an illustration technique
• time to develop drawing skills
• individual feedback on work by the instructor

Materials: Choose a houseplant or clip a plant from your yard. Variety of pencil grades, erasers, sketch paper and/or smooth surface paper, pencil sharpener, ruler, and a loupe or magnifying glass if available.

Cost: $20 Members / $24 Non-Members
