Jennifer Helner is a Michigan realist watercolor painter of flowers, landscapes, and creative lettering. Her artistic process began as a child with eleven years of private art instruction in Livonia. Jennifer achieved her BFA in painting from Wayne State University in 1991. From there, Jennifer worked in custom framing with training from a Master Framer in Farmington Hills. Jennifer also studied calligraphy at the BBAC and College for Creative Studies and has attended numerous workshops of nationally and internationally recognized artists. Her artwork is known for lively colors and brave compositions.
Jennifer is an art instructor in Northville and Livonia with many private students. She teaches watercolor, drawing, pastels, creative hand lettering, and traditional calligraphy and offers workshops on matting and custom framing. She has a custom framing business and frames for the Northville Public Schools, Madonna University, Bob Segar, Kenwal Steel and has private clients. Jennifer receives many requests for her calligraphy work on a commissioned basis and her artwork is in many private residences throughout the U.S.
Jennifer is married with two children. Her teaching Philosophy is simple, “Look with your eyes. Look at what nature has to offer. Master as many techniques as you can. And, most importantly, it is only paper, we can start again.”

Julie has always loved art and drawing and painting. However a career in art was just a dream. Julie graduated from Mt. Holyoke College with a Biology degree with plans to become a veterinarian. Plans changed, she attended The University of Dayton and achieved a M.A. in Clinical Psychology. A watercolor class at Emory University started her on my artistic journey. After moving to Illinois, Julie continued taking more classes in drawing and watercolor. She was a member of the Lakes Region Watercolor Guild learning from many internationally renowned artists. Julie also started working for Young Rembrandts – a drawing program for children, and discovered her love for teaching. Julie’s favorite mediums are watercolor and acrylic, but also enjoy pastel, colored pencils, collage, printmaking, and her latest addiction- alcohol inks.
This will be Julie’s tenth year at the Northville Art House! Julies paintings can be found at Pierre Paul art gallery in Ann Arbor, and she has been honored to have several paintings as part of the Governor’s exhibition in Lansing.
“I combine my science background (by experimenting with various mediums and techniques) with my psychology degree to use art and color to improve self-esteem, reduce stress, and bring joy to one’s life!” Julie Woodard
