In this 2-hour hands-on workshop, participants will learn the step-by-step techniques for creating traditional Celtic knotwork. Starting with simple grids and interlacing patterns, you’ll discover how to build elegant, flowing knots that can be used in borders, mandalas, or standalone designs. No prior drawing experience is required, just curiosity and a willingness to explore patterns.
Alongside the practical drawing exercises, we’ll also open a discussion about the presence of knot and interlace art in other cultures, such as the intricate cross designs of Ethiopian manuscripts and the continuous patterns of Indian kolam and rangoli. Together, we’ll reflect on how these symbols of interconnectedness appear across traditions, carrying themes of unity, infinity, and the sacred thread that links all life.
By the end of the session, you’ll leave with your own completed knotwork designs, a deeper appreciation of global interlacing traditions, and the skills to continue creating on your own.
