Youth Classes and Workshops, Ages 3 – 16

Youth In-Person Classes and Workshops for Kids and Teens, Ages 3 – 16, offer the opportunity to experiment, learn, and develop art skills in small outdoor and classroom sizes with enhanced health protocols in place. Visual art instruction covers painting, drawing, printmaking, hand-sculpture, photography, graphic design, crafts, and mixed-media. Programs are led by Art House instructors and offered in daily or weekly sessions in the classroom. Classes limited to 6 students. Masks will be worn by students and instructor. Desks will be set up 6 feet apart.

Chalk Art Design Workshop for Ages 10+

Instructor: Chalk Artist Tim Cory

Held during the Heritage Festival in Northville Art House Parking Lot

Students ages 10 & up will work with Canton artist Timothy Cory to create a 3D chalk art piece that includes a large crevasse with 3-4 rock pedestals floating in a lake with Gators. Students will learn techniques in chalk blending and compositions. In this 3 hours workshop held during the Heritage Festival transforming the Art House parking lot, students will help Tim complete a finished piece of chalk art with the opportunity to take photos after. Register to be a student to learn from and help Tim transform the Art House parking lot into an amazing chalk painting during Northville’s Heritage Festival.


Discovering Great Artists for Ages 9-12

This class introduces students to Great Artists and their unique art styles. Lots of new ideas and techniques will be presented. All activities are ‘open-ended’ allowing students to find their own creative style.


Watercolor With A Twist for Ages 5-8

Are you finding that your child needs a creative outlet? Do you know that art-making relieves stress, builds critical thinking, enhances creative thinking, and problem-solving skills? Sasha is an experienced and certified art teacher who encourages creative community and will developmentally teach your child the fundamentals of drawing and painting with watercolors while keeping in mind the joy of self-expression. Each class encourages students’ creativity while learning about color, value, composition, and more. Students will build on skills learned each week to create a landscape, still life, famous artist-inspired composition, and/or nature art pieces. There is no experience necessary to be successful in this class – all skill levels of artists are welcome!

All materials are high quality and will be supplied by the artist/teacher. A materials fee of $15 payable to the instructor on first day. Payable by PayPal or Venmo.


Prehistoric Worlds for Ages 9-15

Tyrannosaurus Rex, Pterodactyls, Saber-toothed tigers, cavemen and more! We are going to explore prehistoric animals, plants and humans in a fun and interactive way using models and pictures to guide us. Learn the basics of Shape Form drawing technique while we learn about the fascinating creatures and people that walked the Earth long before us!


Kids Drawing for Ages 9-15

Learn to draw and/or advance in drawing skills. Step by step instruction starting with basic shapes while learning concepts of light, shading, color theory, perspective and more! Topics range from learning art history and copying a master’s painting or drawing, animals, still life, floral, landscape… using several drawing mediums ( soft and oil pastel, pen and ink/wash, colored pencils, graphite) on a variety of high quality artist paper.


Young Artists: Drawing & Painting for Ages 7-11

In this workshop, you will learn how to make a whimsical gnome home with everyday recycled objects and natural materials as moos and wooden sticks. You will make and take your own eco-friendly artwork.

Sonia Giannini is an Italian architect and artist. After her academic studies in Florence, she’s been traveling around the world. She takes inspiration by everyday objects that she revisits and recycles giving them a new and magical life. She currently lives in Northville, where she has found a stimulating environment, inspiring for her arts.

During this 6-week class, we will explore Modern Art and learn from famous artists. When industry started to flourish, that’s when the modern art style began. It became so blended in our live, that we sometimes take it for granted.

Elves, trolls, magic, armor, battles, and creatures of all kinds! From folklore to Tolkien to Dungeons and Dragons, we will explore fantastic characters and mythical monsters through art. Students will learn the basics of Shape-Form drawing technique to create fun and realistic projects.
