Youth Classes and Workshops for Ages 5 – 17, offer the opportunity to experiment, learn, and develop art skills in small classroom sizes. Visual art instruction covers painting, drawing, printmaking, hand-sculpture, photography, graphic design, crafts, and mixed-media. Programs are led by Art House instructors and offered in daily or weekly sessions in the classroom. Classes limited to 10-12 students.

REFUND / CANCELLATION POLICY
A refund will be issued minus a 10% non-refundable deposit on ALL classes and workshops when cancelled 48 hours or more before the first class or workshop starts. Students who wish to cancel less than 48 hours before the first day of class are not eligible for a refund or credit.

Young artists will create a fall fairy garden with a painted house, stepping stones and trees. Students will also create toadstools and pumpkins out of clay to personalize their magical 3D landscape.

In this workshop students will create a handwoven tapestry that can be used as a wall hanging. The process of weaving will be taught from start to finish by learning to thread the warp on a cardboard loom and finally finish the edges of the woven piece. Students will produce a variety of woven patterns while using a simple loom which will be included but they will bring their own yarn.

Join our “Improvisation On Canvas” workshop, where you’ll paint to jazz music, focusing on abstract expression using texture and colors. Inspired by Be Bop era artists like Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, and Miles Davis, you’ll learn to “hear” in color and “listen” for shapes. The instructor will provide individual guidance and encourage the use of alternate materials for applying paints. Canvases and acrylic paints are provided. At the end of the class, you’ll have the opportunity to share your work, learn from others, and discuss your creative process.

Come join a “spooktacular” morning of Halloween Cookie decorating fun! You and your child will enjoy making memories as you learn some “tricks” designing and decorating your very own set of Halloween themed cookies! All you need for this class is yourself and your child, as all materials will be provided! At the end of class, you will also receive a box to take your tasty treats home where you can show them off to all your goblin friends!

In this workshop, you’ll learn how to create foundational elements such as value, texture and color through layered collaged paper. Together, we’ll begin with a basic underpainting of a simple object. Experimenting with different weights and styles of papers, we’ll practice creating various values, shapes and movements. Each student will choose their own colors and styles while receiving hands-on instructions to ensure a beautiful, finished painting.
All materials will be provided, exclusive of smocks. Please dress accordingly.
All levels are welcome, and no experience is necessary but, please note, this workshop focuses on collage techniques- not foundational drawing or painting techniques. The underpainting will be basic and can accommodate any level of artist. Paintings can be taken home immediately.

In this dynamic art class, young artists will embark on a journey through art history, exploring the works of classic art masters. Join our beginning watercolor painting class to explore color, composition, and creativity. Led by experienced artist Sasha, the class covers watercolor basics, techniques, and experimenting with different materials. The class is perfect for adults and teens aged 14+ with little to no experience with watercolors who want to know where to start painting. Topics include wet-on-wet vs. wet-on-dry painting, creating transparencies, color mixing, and creating neutrals with complementary colors. A $25 materials fee is due at first session, payable to the instructor (cash, check, or electronic).

Join this class and become familiar with the art of manga. Learn about the fundamentals of head and body proportions, movement, and facial expressions. Finally, all those skills will be put together for the creation of your own original character.

Throughout the course, participants will learn how to trace objects to form patterns, alter designs by adding new elements, and select fabrics that bring color and texture into their creations. They will develop skills in cutting, sewing, and patternmaking. This program teaches practical sewing skills, encourages creativity, boosts problem-solving abilities, and enhances confidence through design and creation. Kids can choose to make something for themselves or the doll.
Kids are encouraged to bring a favorite top or sweatshirt to class.

In this beginning drawing class, you’ll improve your drawing skills and explore your unique style. Our artist and educator, Sasha, believes that anyone who can write in cursive can draw. You’ll learn to draw realistically without limitations and engage in your authentic self-expression. The course teaches artistic techniques such as line, form, shading, and more. It’s designed for adults and teens 14+ with little to no prior drawing experience. All art materials will be supplied in the first session, and the instructor will guide you on what pencils and paper to purchase going forward. The Northville Art House is partnering with the Northville Chorale to introduce the Northville Children‘s Chorale. This class is designed to be a fun and encouraging choir experience and will introduce students to a variety of vocal techniques and songs. The class will culminate with a performance at 4:00 pm on December 7th at the Marquis Theatre!

Develop an understanding of gesture drawing and gain knowledge of human anatomy as it applies to figure art. This course will help you perfect the drawing of specific body parts, such as hands, faces, and the full body, and master the use of shapes to construct the human form. Additionally, you’ll explore how light affects the form and understand measurements in body proportions.
Each class will begin with a short art history lecture on the old masters’ approach to figure drawing, followed by demonstrations from Sunny. We will be using live clothed models to provide a realistic and dynamic reference for your work. All levels welcome. Class size will allow for individualized instruction.

Unleash your color creativity and take your painting skills to new heights with Sasha! Discover the exclusive techniques that only watercolors can offer. Gear up for the holiday season with our fun workshop, where families are invited to bring their own sweaters or skirts to transform into unique holiday garments. This one-day event is perfect for all ages and skill levels, offering a wonderful opportunity for families to bond over a shared creative activity. Participants will learn basics of hand sewing, and personalize their own garment with vibrant fabrics, festive appliques and playful embellishments.

Together, we will work on layering a blend of paint pens, acrylic paint, and collage papers to create a one-of-a-kind seasonal painting featuring a vibrant poinsettia with shimmering metallic accents. Each student will choose their own colors and styles while receiving hands-on instructions to ensure a beautiful, finished painting. Students will have the opportunity to accent their paintings with metallic foil, leaf or paints to create a lasting, artistic keepsake.
All materials will be provided but feel free to bring a printed photo reference of a poinsettia and any holiday themed tissue papers, greeting cards or paper-based ephemera that you’d like to incorporate into your work of art (this is completely optional, not required)
