Northville Art House
Youth Classes, Ages 5 – 17
Youth Classes and Workshops for ages 5-17 and offer the opportunity to experiment, learn, and develop art skills in small classroom sizes. Instruction includes drawing, painting, mixed media, sewing, singing, and more. Programs are led by Art House instructors and offered in daily or weekly sessions. Classes limited to 10-12 students.

REFUND / CANCELLATION POLICY
A refund will be issued minus a 10% non-refundable deposit on ALL classes and workshops when cancelled 48 hours or more before the first class or workshop starts. Students who wish to cancel less than 48 hours before the first day of class are not eligible for a refund or credit.

Learn from the Masters for ages 5-9

Materials included
This class introduces students to great artists and their signature styles, including Picasso, Klee, Mondrian, Rembrandt, Kahlo, and Botticelli. Lots of new ideas and techniques will be presented. All activities are ‘open-ended’, allowing students to find their own unique style.
Landscape: Watercolor for ages 10-13

Thursdays, September 17-October 22

Materials included
Create beautiful landscape paintings while learning watercolor techniques such as blending, layering, color mixing, and perspective. Students will paint scenes inspired by nature, including skies, trees, mountains, and lakes, while building confidence in their artistic skills.
Preschool Playdate: Meet John Singer Sargent for ages 2-5

Mini Makers: Mindful Felt Creations for ages 5-9

Materials included
Let your child’s imagination come to life in this playful, beginner-friendly textile workshop! Young makers will explore the fundamentals of fabric art by selecting from a vibrant collection of pre-cut felt animal elements, seasonal fruits, and imaginative fantasy creatures. Guided by a professional fashion designer, students will learn essential hand-stitching layout techniques using child-safe, blunt embroidery needles and colorful fibers to assemble their characters. Once stitched, kids will dive into the design process, personalizing their creations with dimensional embellishments, textures, and fabric details. This engaging, hands-on class is a wonderful introduction to construction, fine motor development, and artistic storytelling as children bring their unique, cuddly masterpieces to life.
Fairy Art Workshop for ages 6-10

Reworked Streetwear: The Spliced Hoodie Intensive for ages 12-18

Materials included
Step into the world of high-concept, sustainable streetwear design! In this workshop, students will learn how to deconstruct and radically transform ordinary clothing into an abstract, one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art. Using the popular “splicing” technique, students will cut apart two different pre-loved garments (like hoodies, sweatshirts, or graphic tees) and reconstruct them—merging contrasting colors, graphics, and textures into a unified designer piece. Students will explore garment structural design, learn machine sewing, and use specialized hand-stitching techniques like Japanese Sashiko and Boro patchwork. To fully personalize their designs, students will also incorporate surface art using acrylic paint and fabric markers. This class pushes the boundaries of traditional sewing, celebrating creative problem-solving, bold self-expression, and mindful imperfection. Suitable for beginners.
Adult/Child Halloween Cookie Decorating Workshop for ages 5+

Come join Sweetflour LLC for a “bootiful” time decorating some Halloween sweets with your little pumpkin! You and your child will enjoy making memories as you learn some cookie decorating “tricks” creating these Halloween themed cookie “treats”! All you need for this class is yourself and your child as all materials will be provided including a box to take your sweet creations home in!
Northville Children’s Chorale for ages 5-8

This class will meet at the New School Church in Mill Race Village
The Northville Art House is once again partnering with the Northville Chorale to present the Northville Children’s Chorale. This class is designed to be a fun and engaging choir experience and will introduce students to a variety of vocal techniques and songs. The class will culminate with a performance in early December!

Mixed Media 3D for ages 5-9

This class, that combines structure-building and art, is great to see shape, perceives forms. We will start from concept and in the process of creating, will require a lot of problem solving and analytical thinking.
Manga Drawing for ages 9-15

Materials included
Join this class and become familiar with the art of manga. Learn about the fundamentals of head and body proportions, movement, and facial expressions. Finally, all those skills will be put together for the creation of your own original character. Returning students will be taught more advanced skills and learn to create a story.
Teen Drawing and Painting for ages 9-15

Materials included
Immerse yourself in a world of colors, creativity, and imagination as we explore various painting and drawing techniques. In this class, students will learn the fundamentals of composition, shading, perspective, color theory, and more. A new subject matter will be introduced each week. No prior experience is necessary – just bring your passion for art and a willingness to explore.
Landscape: Acrylic for ages 10-13

Neurographic Fashion Lab: Mindful Tote Bag Design for ages 10-18

Materials included
Express yourself, unwind, and design your new favorite accessory! This high-concept workshop introduces students to neurographic art—a meditative drawing method that uses flowing lines and softened intersections to promote deep mindfulness, stress relief, and emotional well-being. Using a ready-made canvas tote bag as their canvas, students will sketch, ink, and paint their own unique, organic patterns using professional fabric markers and vibrant acrylics. To complete the designer look, students will have the opportunity to style and attach creative trims and patches to personalize their bag. Led by a professional fashion designer and holistic life coach, this high-concept workshop offers a unique space for students to express themselves, unwind, and design a customized accessory.

Join us to experiment with printmaking processes that rely on materials commonly found around the house. From styrofoam plates to erasers to curtain sheers, you’ll be surprised to discover what you can create with simple everyday materials. Each participant will leave with a series of monoprints, their own personalized stamp, and custom screen-printed tote bag.
