Summer Mini Art Camps: Virtual

Summer might look different for your child, but the Northville Art House wants to stay connected to them. Keep them busy and inspire their creativity as they try a new medium or expand their portfolio in our Virtual Mini-Art Camps. Held in ZOOM by Art House instructors, our camps start June 15 with all art supplies included. Register today!

*All artists must register separately if they are in the same household.

* All students are required to have their cameras on during class.

* All instructors are welcoming and encouraging with students to share ideas, ask questions and improve their skills each class.

* Material can be picked up at the art house before the first class.

JULIE WOODARD

Class: “Funny Farm”- Drawing cartoon farm animals  | Ages 7-10
Type: Online Zoom Meeting, Three Sessions

Learn to draw and color theory with markers to bring your cartoons of funny farm animals to life.

Materials: All included; Paper, pencil and Tombow markers. Upon registration student will be contacted via email to schedule pick-up.

Class: Under the Sea – Draw and Color with Prismacolor colored pencils | Ages 9-16
Type: Online Zoom Meeting, Three Sessions 
Date: August 18 – 20 | Time: Tu, W, Th 10:00 – 12:00 pm
 
Draw and color sea animals such as whales, sharks, sea turtles, sea horses… and even fantasy sea dwellers such as sea monsters and mermaids!

CORRY BUCKWALTER

Class: Introduction to Botanical Drawing | Teens & Adults, Ages 15+ 
Type: Online Zoom Meeting, Three Sessions 
Date: August 10 – 12 | Time: MW, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Participants will learn how to draw observational to create botanical illustrations in pencil. Each class will include a brief lecture on historical references and basic botany, a live step-by-step demonstration of an illustration technique, time to draw to learn direct observation skills, as well as, individual feedback on work. Exercises taught in class will develop participants’ control of line, texture, shading and composition. Draw directly from your own live or cut plants such as vines, leafy tropicals, succulents, and flowers. All drawing levels welcome.

DONNA GONZALEZ

Class: Best of Michigan! 3-Day Watercolor Mini Camp | Teens, Ages 9-16

Students with some watercolor experience will hone in on their watercolor skills while practicing techniques and incorporating new media in this 3-day mini art camp. Each day we will explore painting the best of Michigan has to offer. Each class a different subject will be taught. Wednesday: Landscape, Thursday: Robin, Friday: Cherry Pie

SASHA ROBERTS-LEVI

Class: Painting with Parkinson’s | Adult
Type: Online Zoom Meeting, One day sessions
Date: August 12 & August 19 | Time: Wednesdays, 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Even if someone with Parkinson’s Disease has not picked up a paintbrush since grade school, art therapy can help improve physical, psychological and social functioning. Sasha provides personalized instruction based on your skill level and creative goals. Students will explore color theory, paint mixing and techniques that allow them to complete a painting in a few sessions.  Students with no or little prior drawing or painting experience are welcome.

Overriding all else, there is respect for each individual and an empathetic understanding of the path being traveled by both those with Parkinson’s and those who care for them. 

Materials:  A material list will be provided to new students by the instructor.

Class: Watercolor Harmony Zoom Workshop #1 – mindful pulse, precision, and personal pallet
Type: Online Zoom Meeting, Two day workshop, Monday & Wednesday
Date: August 17th and 19th | Time: 10 am-noon

Need a little color boost? Join us for this two-day workshop! Educator, artist, and color connoisseur, Sasha, will guide you through a variety of exercises to boost your brush stoke confidence and expand your knowledge in color theory. We will begin with a quick overview of the basics of the color wheel, wheel-based harmonies, color temperature, and paints for “swatching.” Get inspired making “pulse and precision” to create beautiful watercolor paintings in a technical and creative way that will enhance your own style whether it is abstract or realistic. This workshop will be a delicious hors-d’oeuvre for your watercolor mindful painting practice! Come join our creative community!

Materials: (Students supply their own materials)

· 9×12 High-grade student Watercolor Paper Pad (like Canson’s XL)

· Watercolor (tube or cake) with a basic pallet (warm and cool reds, blues, yellows, and your other favorites. WHAT YOU HAVE WILL BE FINE.

· A variety of brushes – including size 0, 1, and 2

· Two jars of water, some paper towel or a rag and your imagination
