Workshops

Youth, Teen, and Adult Workshops offer the opportunity for students to experiment, learn, and develop art skills in small classroom sizes. Adult workshops are for ages 16+ unless otherwise noted. Workshops are led by Northville Art House instructors and are offered in one- or two-day sessions. Each workshop is limited to 10 students. Register today!

REFUND / CANCELLATION POLICY

A refund will be issued minus a 10% non-refundable deposit on ALL classes and workshops when cancelled 48 hours or more before the first class or workshop starts. Students who wish to cancel less than 48 hours before the first day of class are not eligible for a refund or credit.

Valentine’s Felt Pouch or Keychain Workshop for ages 6-10

Join us for a fun and creative Valentine’s sewing workshop, where kids can choose to make either small felt pouches with heart designs or adorable keychains. These personalized creations are perfect for holding Valentine’s cards, candy, or little trinkets. Using hand-sewing techniques, colorful felt, and embellishments, kids will learn to stitch and decorate their own special Valentine’s keepsakes. This beginner-friendly workshop is perfect for children who love crafting and want to create something heartfelt to share with friends or family! 


Art + Mindfulness Workshops for ages 14+

Each session will introduce a variety of techniques that will force you to slow down, look, and reflect on what you see in the artworks on view in the Art House gallery.  You’ll leave feeling relaxed, refreshed, and connected to art in ways you never would have imagined.

Seasonal Watercolor Postcards Workshop for ages 6-10

Photoshoot & Photo Editing Workshop for ages 16+

Required materials: DSLR Camera (preferred) or a smart phone, preferably newer model, and either an iPad / tablet or a laptop that you can download free software to. 

Every season in Michigan has its ups and downs. Winter is cold, gray and drabby, but wouldn’t it be nice to see the magical side, the winter wonderland? Join us for a special photo workshop, where we will explore Michigan’s winter beauty on a photo tour around town, followed by a cozy and relaxing warm up at The Northville Art House. Half of the class will consist of taking beautiful fine art photographs, while the second half will be warming up with hot chocolate, tea, and coffee, with treats! There, we will review a few photo editing techniques to do on your new photos. If you have other photos you’d like help editing, feel free to bring those digital images.


Heart-Shaped Pillow Workshop for ages 6-13

Perfect for beginners, this hands-on class introduces basic sewing skills while sparking creativity and imagination. Participants will choose colorful fabrics, learn to follow simple patterns, and stuff their pillows to create a cozy, handmade heart to take home. Whether as a gift or a snuggly keepsake, these soft hearts will be made with love and plenty of fun! 


Galentine’s Art Party Workshop for ages 12+

Shadia will guide you through creating a heart-themed collaged painting, perfect for beginners and pros alike. Enjoy a spread of sweet and savory treats while exploring collage techniques with acrylic paint, pens, and metallic accents. Leave with a unique piece of art and cherished memories. Create Art Together: Adult/Child Workshop for ages 7-11

All supplies are provided with this class leaving you and your child time to just enjoy decorating cookies together. After class, you will be able to take your sweet treats home and enjoy them with your family, if they make it that far! One registration covers one child participant and accompanying adult.

Perfect for beginners and experienced decorators alike, this class will teach you the ins and outs of royal icing consistencies and how to use them to create a beautiful Valentine’s Day cookie platter. You’ll get tips for baking perfect cut-out cookies that don’t spread and learn decorating techniques like outlining, flooding, and adding details. With all materials provided and hands-on guidance, you’ll leave with a set of stunning cookies sure to make your Valentine smile!

Paint Pour Workshop for ages 8-12

Poncho/Cape Workshop for ages 16+

You’ll choose from simple styles or more intricate designs based on your skill level. Learn to read and create patterns, master sewing machine basics, and explore seams, seam finishes, and special touches like trims and pockets. With step-by-step guidance, you’ll design and sew a garment that reflects your style. All materials are provided—just bring your enthusiasm and creativity for a fun, hands-on sewing experience! 


Color Pop  Collage Workshop for ages 12+

Royal Icing Basics & Floral Cookie Decorating Workshop

 One of the most common questions about decorating sugar cookies with royal icing is, “How do you get the right consistency?” If you’ve struggled with this or want to learn how to make and use royal icing to create Pinterest-worthy cookies, this class is for you! Join Audrey Edwards, owner of Sweetflour LLC, for a hands-on experience where you’ll make royal icing from scratch, learn how to color it, and thin it to different consistencies. Audrey will guide you through using these consistencies to decorate floral cookies and share tips for baking perfect cut-out cookies that don’t spread. By the end of the class, you’ll have a solid understanding of royal icing and the skills to decorate beautiful cookies at home!

Printmaking Workshop for ages 16+

Materials Included

Discover the joy of monotype printing with its immediate gratification and delightful unpredictability! In this workshop, we’ll create monotype prints using both gel plates and plexiglass, with and without a press. You’ll experiment with multi-layer and single-layer prints, applying and removing paint using brayers, cotton cloths, brushes, and various other tools. Your instructor will demonstrate a range of additive and reductive techniques, and if time allows, we’ll explore ‘ghost prints’—the unique impressions left on the plate after the first pull.
