Youth Classes, Ages 5 – 17

Youth Classes and Workshops for ages 5-17 and offer the opportunity to experiment, learn, and develop art skills in small classroom sizes. Instruction includes drawing, painting, mixed media, sewing, singing, and more. Programs are led by Art House instructors and offered in daily or weekly sessions. Classes limited to 10-12 students.

REFUND / CANCELLATION POLICY

A refund will be issued minus a 10% non-refundable deposit on ALL classes and workshops when cancelled 48 hours or more before the first class or workshop starts. Students who wish to cancel less than 48 hours before the first day of class are not eligible for a refund or credit.

Art from the Heart Workshop for ages 7-10

Looking to create some special memories with your child? Come join Sweetflour LLC with your little Sweetie for a special time decorating Valentine’s cookies! All supplies are provided with this class leaving you and your child time to just enjoy decorating cookies together. After class, you will be able to take your sweet treats home and enjoy them with your family, if they make it that far! 

Heart-Shaped Pillow or Stuffy Workshop for ages 7-13

Celebrate Valentine’s season with a fun, hands-on sewing workshop! Perfect for beginners, this class introduces kids to the basics of sewing while inspiring creativity and self-expression. 

Participants will choose colorful fabrics, learn how to use simple patterns, and sew their own heart-shaped pillow—or create a custom “stuffy” of their choice! Each student will design, stitch, and stuff their project to take home a cozy, handmade creation. Whether made as a gift or a snuggly keepsake, every piece will be crafted with love and lots of fun!

Manga Drawing for ages 10-15

Materials included

Join this class and become familiar with the art of manga. Learn about the fundamentals of head and body proportions, movement, and facial expressions. Finally, all those skills will be put together for the creation of your own original character. 

Beginning Songwriting for ages 7-11

Materials included

Join us as we dive into the fundamentals of songwriting and learn the fun and freedom of putting words to music. The goal of the class will be to write one song as a group, as well as have the space and coaching for working on songs individually, as well. There will be multiple songwriting techniques covered, including a fun technique to write melodies invented by the instructor. Class concludes in a small private concert held at the Art House on March 28 at 11 am, where the students will perform the songs written in class. 

Stitch & Create: Intro to Hand Embroidery for ages 7-12

Materials included

In this fun and creative workshop, kids will learn hand embroidery basics. Using colorful threads and fabric, they will create an embroidered art piece to take home. Each child will keep an embroidery hoop to continue practicing and creating more designs at home. Students will explore ways to personalize their clothing and accessories—adding their names or unique designs to sweaters, tote bags, jean pockets, and more! This workshop is perfect for young creatives who love hands-on projects and want to develop a new skill in a fun and relaxed environment. 

Native Plants Workshop for ages 8-13

The Art House and the Plymouth Pollinators are teaming up to to teach young students about why native plants are crucial for the environment. In this collaborative workshop, Lindsay Torey from the Plymouth Pollinators will discuss common native plants in Michigan and their role in the ecosystem. This discussion will be followed by a watercolor painting workshop focused on native plants, led by Art House instructor Stacy Pearson.

“The Masters” Series for ages 5-9

In this dynamic class, young artists will explore art history by studying classic masters and creating their own works inspired by them. Each week focuses on a different artist, combining hands-on creativity with various techniques and materials. 

Teen Drawing & Painting for ages 10-15

Creative Felt Bag Making for ages 7-12

Get ready to stitch, design, and create! In this fun five-week class, students will design and sew their very own felt bag from start to finish. They’ll learn basic hand-sewing skills, how to work with felt, and how to decorate their bag with colorful trims, buttons, and creative details. Guided by a fashion designer, students will explore color, shape, and design while building confidence and creativity. Each child will leave with a one-of-a-kind felt bag they designed and made themselves! 

Preschool Playdate for ages 2-5

Preschool Playdates offer the opportunity for preschoolers and their favorite adult to create, look, and learn about art in small class sizes. Each month we’ll read a story, look at art, and create a special art project inspired by what we see. March’s book is Lines by Suzy Lee.

“Totes of Love” Workshop for ages 6-16

In this special International Women’s Day workshop, kids will design and decorate their own tote bag using fabric markers, stencils, trims, and more. They’ll also learn basic hand-sewing and simple embroidery stitches to personalize their tote with unique details and heartfelt messages. Participants will explore color, pattern, and texture as they create a one-of-a-kind tote—either for themselves or as a handmade gift for their mom or someone special.

Art Around the World: Italy Workshop for ages 6-9

Let your little one’s imagination come to life! In this playful, hands-on workshop, children will hand-sew their adorable felt creature using a safe, big, blunt embroidery needle, felt shapes, and colorful embroidery thread. They’ll practice hand sewing with big embroidery needles, decorate their creation with fun accessories, and even give it a name and personality! This is a wonderful introduction to sewing, storytelling, and fine motor skill development. 

Adult/Child Chick In Egg Cookie Decorating Workshop for ages 5+

Creative Crafts Workshop for ages 8-12
