
Youth, Teen, and Adult Workshops offer the opportunity for students to experiment, learn, and develop art skills in small classroom sizes. Adult workshops are for ages 16+ unless otherwise noted. Workshops are led by Northville Art House instructors and are offered in one- or two-day sessions. Each workshop is limited to 10 students. Register today!

REFUND / CANCELLATION POLICY
A refund will be issued minus a 10% non-refundable deposit on ALL classes and workshops when cancelled 48 hours or more before the first class or workshop starts. Students who wish to cancel less than 48 hours before the first day of class are not eligible for a refund or credit.

Materials included
In this fun and creative workshop, kids will learn hand embroidery basics. Using colorful threads and fabric, they will create an embroidered art piece to take home. Each child will keep an embroidery hoop to continue practicing and creating more designs at home. Students will explore ways to personalize their clothing and accessories—adding their names or unique designs to sweaters, tote bags, jean pockets, and more! This workshop is perfect for young creatives who love hands-on projects and want to develop a new skill in a fun and relaxed environment.

The Art House and the Plymouth Pollinators are teaming up to to teach young students about why native plants are crucial for the environment. In this collaborative workshop, Lindsay Torey from the Plymouth Pollinators will discuss common native plants in Michigan and their role in the ecosystem. This discussion will be followed by a watercolor painting workshop focused on native plants, led by Art House instructor Stacy Pearson.

Learn to use colored pencils like never before! All experience and skill levels are welcome. There will be multiple lessons from beginner to intermediate, and return students have many choices for additional projects, or may bring one of their own. In this special International Women’s Day workshop, kids will design and decorate their own tote bag using fabric markers, stencils, trims, and more. They’ll also learn basic hand-sewing and simple embroidery stitches to personalize their tote with unique details and heartfelt messages. Participants will explore color, pattern, and texture as they create a one-of-a-kind tote—either for themselves or as a handmade gift for their mom or someone special.

Do you want to get into art making but don’t know which medium is for you? Are you an artist who wants to try something different? This sampler workshop is the perfect place to start. We will try a different medium each week of this 3-week workshop. Explore mixed media collage, mosaics and textile arts. Celebrate Valentine’s season with a fun, hands-on sewing workshop! Perfect for beginners, this class introduces kids to the basics of sewing while inspiring creativity and self-expression.
Let your little one’s imagination come to life! In this playful, hands-on workshop, children will hand-sew their adorable felt creature using a safe, big, blunt embroidery needle, felt shapes, and colorful embroidery thread. They’ll practice hand sewing with big embroidery needles, decorate their creation with fun accessories, and even give it a name and personality! This is a wonderful introduction to sewing, storytelling, and fine motor skill development.

Ready to explore the magic of painting what’s not there? In this lively and beginner-friendly workshop, artist Shadia Derbyshire will introduce students to the beautiful art of negative painting—a technique that reveals the subject by painting around it rather than inside the lines. We’ll pair this with rich collage layering to create a dynamic, textural floral composition that’s bursting with color and depth.
We’ll begin with a colorful, abstract underpainting, then build up layers of collage papers to add pattern, texture, and personality. From there, students will learn how to use negative painting techniques to carve out elegant floral shapes—allowing a bouquet to emerge organically from the layers beneath.

Hippity Hoppity Easter’s on its way! Celebrate the coming of Easter, with you and your child and Audrey Edwards of Sweetflour LLC for a Parent/Child cookie decorating class! You both will enjoy making memories as you design and decorate this 3 piece cookie set to usher in the holiday season. All you need for this class is yourself and your child – all materials will be provided! Then, box up you and your child’s sweet creation and “hippity hop” home to show off you and your child’s decorating talents to family and friends!

Capture the memory of a meaningful place by turning it into a watercolor painting! Students will bring 8” x 10” photos of a location they would like to commemorate. We’ll explore color theory, color mixing, and watercolor techniques—including wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, and dry-on-dry—using a variety of papers. Students will also get to experiment with creating texture. If you’re unsure about your drawing skills, no worries—tracing and image transfer options will be available, along with guidance on composition and drawing. This class is ideal for beginners and intermediate painters, but all levels are welcome!
